When it comes to choosing a dog walker, it’s not just about finding someone who loves dogs. It’s about ensuring the person responsible for your dog is qualified, knowledgeable, and capable of handling any situation that might arise. With the right dog walker, your pet’s physical and mental well-being will be cared for, giving you peace of mind.
This is why I, Del, am committed to constantly updating my knowledge and skills. Through various courses and certifications, I strive to be the best dog walker I can be, ensuring that your dog is in safe and experienced hands.
Ongoing Education and Training
I am dedicated to continuing professional development (CPD) and regularly attend courses with the Dog Training College and other recognised providers. These courses cover everything from canine behaviour and body language to handling reactive dogs. My training includes:
- Tellington TTouch: A gentle approach that helps dogs with calming techniques, promoting relaxation, reducing stress, and improving behaviour.
- Talking Dog: A course focused on understanding dog communication, helping me to read their signals better and respond appropriately.
- Calmness Rocks: This course teaches dogs to be calmer in everyday situations, especially during walks.
- Reactive Rascals: A programme designed to help manage and understand reactive dogs, ensuring their walks are safe and stress-free.
Understanding canine body language and how to handle different behaviours is crucial, especially when dealing with dogs who might feel anxious, reactive, or stressed in certain situations. My training allows me to spot these subtle cues and respond in a way that keeps your dog safe and comfortable.
First Aid and Hands-On Experience
In addition to behaviour and training courses, I’ve also taken several canine first aid courses to ensure I am prepared for emergencies. One of the standout courses I’ve completed is with Rachel Bean, a veterinary nurse with over 27 years of experience. Rachel’s course stands out for her vast expertise and because it’s one of the few Ofqual-recognised programmes, meaning it meets rigorous educational standards. Her hands-on training covers essential skills, including canine CPR, which is vital knowledge for any professional dog walker.
