Finchley Dog Walking and Pet Care Services

Derek Chambers, owner of Finchley Dog Walker, provides trusted pet services in the Finchley and Muswell Hill areas.

Since starting my business in 2011, I’ve been passionate about continually improving my skills and knowledge. Over the years, I’ve completed a variety of courses through the Dog Training College and additional training in techniques like Tellington TTouch. I’m always updating my skills to ensure I provide the best care.

I’m fully insured, have an Enanced DBS check (thanks to my work with the Scouts), and am trained in human and canine first aid, so you can trust that your pets are in safe and capable hands.

My passion is working with dogs (and most other animals, though snakes aren’t my favourite!). No matter the breed or temperament, I love building relationships with them and tailoring my care to suit their individual needs. With years of experience handling various dogs, I pride myself on offering a reliable, caring service that you and your dog can depend on.

Solo Dog Walks

This is my speciality service! Having always owned rescue dogs—some nervous and others reactive—I quickly noticed that many dog walkers either lacked the experience or weren’t comfortable working with dogs who needed that extra bit of care. That’s where I come in. Shy, anxious, or reactive dogs thrive when their walks are tailored to meet their specific needs, and that’s exactly what I offer.

I provide one-to-one walks only—no group walks—so your dog gets my full attention. Each walk is carefully designed to suit their personality and requirements, ensuring they feel calm, enriched, and happy. Here’s what’s included in my solo walks:

• Brainwork to engage their mind
• Time to sniff and decompress
• Opportunities to work on any training you’d like me to focus on
• Premium hypoallergenic dog treats to make the walk extra rewarding

Solo walks are also perfect for dogs in season or those who prefer their space.

My rate is £25 per walk, and like all my services, it’s subject to our Extreme Weather Policy for everyone’s safety

Dog Walks For Older Dogs

As an owner of two older dogs, I understand they can be grumpy when younger dogs try to make them play; they want to stroll at their own pace with plenty of sniffs.

Sometimes, they don’t want to go out and are happy to play brain enrichment games in the garden.

My dog walks for the older dog are perfect for this. I can also administer ear drops, eye drops, tablets, and injections.

Training Walks

Our training walks are ideal for puppies and high-energy dogs. They are often short, even in the garden. I can advise you on basic puppy training and then work with you on any training plan you already have.

Training and Socialising Walks for Rescues

Welcoming a rescue dog into your life is an enriching experience, but it can come with unique challenges—especially when training and socialising. That’s why I’ve created this new service, designed specifically to help rescue dogs (and their owners!) build confidence, learn new skills, and enjoy stress-free walks.

This service is part of our dog training programme and focuses on providing tailored support to help your rescue settle into their new life and develop positive behaviours.

What’s Included in the Training and Socialising Package?

This package offers six solo walks, giving your dog time to learn and practice in a calm, controlled environment. The first four walks focus on building trust, working on key training goals, and gradually introducing socialisation tailored to your dog’s needs. Whether your dog struggles with reactivity, confidence, or basic lead manners, each walk is designed to help them thrive.

The final two walks include you as the owner. This is your opportunity to join in, see the methods I’ve been using with your dog, and ask any questions. I’ll walk you through the techniques so you can confidently continue the training.

Additional Support

This isn’t just about the walks! You’ll also receive:

• WhatsApp support throughout the process, so you can ask questions, share progress, or troubleshoot between sessions.
• Advice on enrichment activities to keep your rescue happy and stimulated at home.
• After each walk, personalised feedback keeps you informed of your dog’s progress.

Weekend Walks

Weekend walks is a service designed for busy people who want to do chores while their dog is out of the way. This service is top-rated around holidays such as Easter and Christmas.

The great thing about Weekend Walks with Finchley Dog Walker is that they are at least 2 hours long for just £50.

Dog Walks For Ill and Infirm

 If you are dealing with the aftermath of an illness or accident, you might find that you can’t give your dog the necessary exercise. That’s why I’m more than capable of providing you with the necessary support.

My service helps you by making sure that your dog stays active. I’ll walk them for you and ensure your dog remains in good health and gets to burn off its energy without causing you stress.

Aided Dog Walking

 If you want to exercise your pet but don’t feel confident going out into the world, I can help. I am happy to walk your dog for you or come out with you so you have a trusted and friendly face. If you’re not confident walking your dog, this is your service.

I’ve got plenty of experience handling rambunctious and energetic dogs, so I can help you gain some confidence walking your dog on the lead or practising basic recall.

Cat Sitting Service in the Finchley and Muswell Hill Area

While Finchley Dog Walker originally started in 2011 offering dog walking, I have expanded my pet care services over the years and, as of 2024, will be expanding our dog training.

One such service is my cat-sitting service. I worked for over 16 years for a company with Siamese, Devon Rex, and Sphynx cats that I looked after, and I even administered medication to one of them, a diabetic.

Rabbit Holiday Care – New for 2023

I’ve been getting more requests to care for rabbits while their owners are away, so I’m excited to offer a rabbit holiday care service!

I’ll pop in to make sure your rabbits have fresh food and water, clean their run, and give them some attention. As part of the service, I can also take in your post and put out the bins, helping your home look lived in while you’re away.

Our fee is £15 and includes feeding, changing litter trays and bedding, providing water and if the rabbit allows cuddles

Pet Sitting and Holiday Care For Dogs

We all deserve a break, whether it’s a sunny getaway or a visit to loved ones. But what about our dogs? Sometimes, taking them with us is impossible, or maybe you have a multi-pet household to consider. Or it could just be that your pet will be much happier at home in a friendly environment.

That’s where I come in with my dedicated holiday care service. I’ll ensure your pets are in safe hands, keeping them happy and healthy and showering with all the love and attention they deserve throughout your trip.

Here’s what you can expect from my holiday care service:

• Personalized Pet Care: Every pet is unique, and I understand that. I’ll take the time to get to know your pets, their routines, and their special needs to ensure their care with us is tailored just for them.
• Home Comforts: Forget about the stress of unfamiliar environments! I’ll look after your pets in the comfort of their home, where they feel safe and secure. They’ll have their familiar surroundings, toys, and even their favourite cuddle spots.
• Quality Time and Affection: Your pets won’t miss out on love and affection while you’re away. I’ll spend quality time with them, providing plenty of playtime, cuddles, and belly rubs to keep their tails wagging and their purrs strong.
• Feeding and Health Care: I’ll follow your instructions and ensure your pets receive proper meals, medications (if needed), and special dietary requirements. Your pet’s health is my priority, and I’ll watch them closely to ensure they’re feeling their best.
